What do you do when you have a massive vision for change but almost no budget and zero staff? If you are the Community Catalyst Foundation, you don’t wait for a miracle—you become the "yeast" that makes the bread rise. We recently adopted a name for the organisation in the local language, Thobi Pa Lwak, a name that reminds us every day that real transformation starts from within the community.

During our recent strategic planning, our Board made a decision that most organizations would find radical: they chose to be "active" rather than just "executive." In a true show of grassroots spirit, our Board members have committed to stepping into the daily roles usually reserved for staff. Whether it’s coordinating logistics or walking the village paths to meet families, they are rolling up their sleeves to do the heavy lifting themselves.

This shift wasn’t inspired by a textbook, but by a powerful learning visit to the New Generation Healing Centre in Nebbi. Seeing the strength of communal effort in action reinforced what we already knew—that the most authentic way to lead is to serve.

Our new work plan isn’t just a list of policies; it’s a roadmap for survival and growth rooted in the real, messy, and beautiful needs of our people. By choosing to be both the visionaries and the workers, our leadership is proving that change doesn't happen to a community—it happens with them. At Thobi Pa Lwak, we are proud to be the catalyst that is part of the reaction, working side-by-side until the whole community rises.
