About

AYIORWOTH JANET
BORN: 11/05/1960
DIED: 24/08/2012

She was an exceptional mother and mentor who believed in helping others reach their full potential. She supported the education of several of her family members and their children, as well as other non-family members, over the years up until her death. One such beneficiary of her support is the organisation's Founder, who credits her continued education to her. She is survived by one daughter, and a legacy of support to others.

The Janet Ayio Education Fund, an initiative by Community Catalyst Uganda, is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by dismantling the educational barriers faced by children and educators in the West Nile region. Our activities focus on comprehensive, long-term empowerment. We provide holistic support—from comprehensive student scholarships and essential classroom resources to advanced professional development for teachers—ensuring every child has the opportunity to achieve academic excellence and become a powerful contributor to their community's future. Invest in a future where potential knows no boundaries.

Activities

The Ayio Scholars Program: Investing in Future Leaders

Financial hardship should never be a barrier to academic excellence. The Ayio Scholars Program provides comprehensive scholarships to academically promising, vulnerable boys and girls from underserved communities in the West Nile region.

We don't just cover tuition; our scholarships are holistic, covering fees, essential supplies, and modest living stipends from primary school through tertiary level. By removing financial obstacles, we empower these young individuals to focus entirely on their education, maximise their potential, and ultimately return as skilled contributors to their communities' development. We actively promote gender equity by ensuring equal access and opportunity for both male and female scholars.

Resourcing the Learning Environment: Bridging the Resource Gap

A foundational component of quality education is access to appropriate and sufficient learning materials. Many schools in the West Nile region suffer from chronic shortages that hinder effective teaching and student engagement.

We work directly with schools to supply essential educational resources, including textbooks, laboratory equipment, library supplies, and digital learning tools. By ensuring that classrooms are well-equipped, we not only improve the immediate learning outcomes of students but also strengthen the institutional capacity of our partner schools, helping them create sustainable environments for educational success.

Mentorship and Guidance: Shaping Character and Career

Success in education requires more than just academic performance; it requires resilience, guidance, and a clear vision for the future. Our mentorship program provides a critical layer of personal and professional support for all Ayio Scholars and participating teachers.

We connect participants with experienced mentors who offer guidance on academic pathways, career development, life skills, and ethical leadership. This vital one-on-one and group interaction helps young learners navigate personal challenges, build confidence, and transition successfully into higher education and the workforce, ensuring their long-term impact on society.

The Ayio Educator Stewardship Forum

Recognising that excellent education is built on responsible stewardship of talent and knowledge, the Janet Ayio Education Fund extends critical support directly to our educators. The Ayio Educator Stewardship Forum is a dedicated professional development series designed to enhance the instructional effectiveness of support teachers across the West Nile region.

Our sessions focus on advanced pedagogy, effective classroom knowledge management, practical techniques for talent identification and nurturing, and best practices in ethical classroom leadership. Crucially, the Forum is structured around dynamic learning and sharing, facilitated not only by experts in related educational fields but also by highly skilled peer educators within the teaching community. This ensures that the knowledge exchanged is both theoretically sound and immediately relevant to the local classroom context.
